Place Description

Wat Suan Dok was built in 1383. The main Viharn was rebuilt in the 1930's and is a large hall but to the south of it is a smaller Viharn with walls that are decorated with murals showing the previous lives of the Buddha. North-west of the main hall is an area with small, whitewashed chedis which house the ashes of the kings of the old Lanna Kingdom. The compound of Wat Suan Dok also contains the northern campus of the Maha Chulalongkorn Buddhist University of the Mahanikai sect.
