Right understanding of the Four Noble Truths forms both the beginning and the culmination of the Noble Eightfold Path. The understanding of the Four Noble Truths are the understanding of suffering, the understanding of the origin of suffering, the understanding of the cessation of suffering, and the understanding of the way leading to the cessation of suffering.

Right understanding is the guide for the other factors of the Noble Eightfold Path. Right understanding enables us to understand our starting point, our destination, and the various landmarks we will meet in the course of practice and advancements. To attempt the practice without a foundation of right understanding is futile.
